Snow Shoveling Assistance Program
The City of Salem has developed a Snow Shoveling Assistance Program to assist our elderly and infirmed residents locate youths in their neighborhoods to shovel snow from their walkways, sidewalks and driveways, and to teach our younger generation responsibility while allowing them to earn spending money for their labors.

In order to participate in the program, residents can contact the Department of Public Services at 978-745-9595, ext. 342.  You will be asked to sign a Waiver of Liability, and then you will receive a list of students and their addresses in your neighborhood.  Hopefully, there will be a youngster that lives near you, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee that there will be someone in your neighborhood to assist you.  However, we will try our best to accommodate your request.  We do have some young adults in the program who can drive, if none of the participants are located within your neighborhood. You are responsible for contacting the student directly and making your own financial arrangements with the shoveler.  Residents are encouraged to call now, so that they can receive their student lists and make arrangements with the shoveler before the next snowstorm.

We are always looking g to expand our list of young people, so if any person is interested in participating in this program, please call the Department of Public Services at 978-745-9595, ext. 342.   We do have some young adults in the program who can drive to help service our elderly throughout the City, so any one who is able to drive would be a great addition to our snow shovelers' list.
