The Perfect Pick-Up Pays

SALEM, MA –In early December SalemRecycles initiated the “Perfect Pick-Up”, a contest sponsored by North Shore Recycled Fibers, the City’s recycling/disposal vendor.  While Salem has improved its recycling rates from 9% to 19%; Salem still has a long way to go to achieve their ambitious goal of 30%.  SalemRecycles, the City’s volunteer recycling committee, has conducted many initiatives to improve recycling awareness including hosting Book Swaps, co-hosting Clean Salem-Green Salem, and initiating a quarterly recycling competition among trash routes.

The Perfect Pick-Up contest rewards a lucky Salem resident who has done a great or “perfect” job with their recycling that week.  The contest commenced in early December when the first drawing for the weekly $50 prize was held.  The first winners were the Pini family from 26 Symonds Street in North Salem.  Brad Cole from North shore Recycling sales department presented them with the check.  Mayor Kimberley Driscoll also attended the event and congratulated the family for doing a great job with recycling!

The rules to enter the Perfect Pick-Up contest are easy. You must first register by agreeing to take the recycling pledge for appropriate recycling practices by completing a form available at City Hall Annex, 120 Washington Street-4th floor engineering; or the Council on Aging-5 Broad St; or going to www.Salem.com\recycling.  Click onto “The Perfect Pick- Up” and you will find a registration form and a poster explaining the correct sorting of our dual stream system.  Each Friday, a completed form will be chosen to potentially win the next week’s prize. Once the recycling of the potential awardee has been verified as meeting the requirements, North Shore Recycled Fibers will issue a $50 check.  This contest will run through May 2010. Call 978-619-5679 with questions.
