Any person conducting a business in the City of Salem, under any title other than the complete real name of the owner, whether individually or as a partnership, or any corporation doing business in a name other than the corporate name, must file a business certificate with the Salem City Clerk's Office. The filing may be either in person or by mail.
Upon discontinuing, retiring, withdrawing from such business, or in the case of a change of address of an owner of the business, said change must be filed with the City Clerk.
All business certificates filed in the City Clerk's Office shall be in force and effect for four (4) years from the date of issue. Certificates must be re-filed in four years if business is still being conducted.
BUSINESS CERTIFICATE FILINGS ARE NOT A LICENSE TO CONDUCT BUSINESS. ANY PERSON WISHING TO CONDUCT BUSINESS MUST, IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, CONTACT THE ZONING ENFORCEMENT OFFICE TO ENSURE THAT THE BUSINESS LOCATION IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH CITY ZONING LAWS.
