Citizens Fire Academy: Starts January 3, 2018 - Application Deadline December 8, 2017

Salem Citizens Fire Academy is a great opportunity for persons that reside in the City of Salem who want to know more about their fire department.

Topics include:

Fire Service History                                                         Portable Fire Extinguishers (Hands-on)

Organization Structure                                                    Extrication

Emergency Apparatus and Equipment                           Fire Prevention

Fire Operations (Hands-on)                                            Search and Rescue (Hands-on)

Protective Clothing (Hands-on)                                       Breathing-Apparatus (Hands-on)


Recruits must be at least 18 years old to attend


When:     The Academy is offered January 3rd through February 17th

                Class will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm–8:30pm with one Saturday 9am to 12pm.

Where:    The Academy meets at Station 1 located at: 48 Lafayette Street.

Tuition:   Free        

 The Salem Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy is a program to help citizens better understand the fire department’s firefighting operations and the multitude of services it provides to our community. The program teaches citizens about the many jobs firefighters provide on a daily basis and promotes citizen interaction with the firefighters. Citizens will gain a unique view of the lives of professional firefighters.

Due to limited class space we can only accept up to 20 Recruits

Equipment needed: Safety Glasses - Gloves - Knee Pads - Sturdy Shoes/Boots
