At 1100-On behalf of the Salem Veterans Council, we invite you to the 2015 Veterans Day ceremony. Again, we will hold the ceremony at the Salem High School auditorium on WEDNESDAY, November 11, starting at 11 o’clock; the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour.

Once again the city will be presenting the Salem Wartime Service Medal to all eligible Salem veterans. If you recall, these current medals are a replica of a medal the city presented to returning WWI ‘Doughboys’ as a token of gratitude for their service. Please let me know if you have a family member, neighbor, or friend that might be eligible to receive this recognition from the city. Please contact me asap if you have someone who may be eligible.

At 1000-St Mary’s cemetery will be conducting a their first “Blessing of the Flags” and “Salute to our Veterans” on November 11th at 10 AM outside of our veterans section at Saint Mary Cemetery in Salem.  This 20 minute long ceremony will feature an opening prayer, a word of thanks to our attending veterans, a moment of prayer for those who are currently serving, the playing of taps for those veterans who have passed on before us and will finish with the blessing of flags and the unveiling of our new Veterans Memorial.
