Public Meeting to Present Proposed Flood Map Revisions

Monday | September 19, 2016 | 6:30 pm

3rd floor conference room | City Hall Annex | 120 Washington St.

The City of Salem will hold a public meeting to present proposed revisions to FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The meeting will be held Monday, September 19 at 6:30 pm in the 3rd floor conference room at the City Hall Annex at 120 Washington Street.

Applied Coastal Research & Engineering of Mashpee recently completed a new coastal flood study for the City. Based on the findings, the City plans to submit a Letter of Map Revision to FEMA, proposing changes to the flood maps. Proposed changes include shrinking the flood zones in select areas, lowering base flood elevations, and changing flood zone designations. If approved by FEMA, these changes could reduce the cost of flood insurance for some properties, and eliminate the requirement for flood insurance altogether for others.

The current FEMA flood maps are available for viewing online at http://msc.fema.gov. Maps showing proposed changes are posted on the City’s website at: tinyurl.com/hha4a3e
