This afternoon the Salem Farmers’ Market will officially kick off its ninth season on Derby Square. With over 35 vendors, the market will be held at Derby Square on Front Street in Salem, MA every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. from June 8th through October 12th, 2017.
Opening day will set the tone for the largely volunteer-run market that, for five months each year, gives residents and tourists alike the opportunity to buy farm-fresh produce, seafood, baked goods, meat, and a variety of other goods. Every week the market offers live music and representation from different community groups and initiatives.
“The market has truly become a destination for the community – it’s a gathering place as well as an opportunity to get fresh, local produce and other goods," Salem Main Streets Executive Director Kylie Sullivan said, adding that the 2016 market season brought an attendance of well over 2,000 market-goers weekly. “With the great range of vendors that we have, there’s something for everyone at our farmers’ market.”

"This fantastic event brings together residents, visitors, and small local businesses alike, building community connections, strengthening our local economy, and increasing access to healthy food choices. I'm looking forward to visiting the market this season to see all of the returning vendors and discover the many new products and vendors added for this year."
At the heart of the market are seven major farms: Clark Farm, Gibney Gardens, Maitland Mountain Farm, Grant Family Farm, Heavens Harvest Farm, Long Hill Orchard, and Wally's Vegetables. They are complemented by an array of specialty foods, bakery products, spices, and non-food vendors. Regular shoppers will notice our successful local brick and mortar businesses - Salem Spice, Jodi Bee Bakes, Far From the Tree, Milk and Honey, and Popped Gourmet Popcorn – rotating through once a month as our new storefront spotlight vendors.
Exciting new additions to the 2017 market include Beverly Bees, Eva’s Farm Butcher Shop, West River Creamery, Somerville Bread Company, Pigeon Cove Ferments, Mia’s House of Sweets, Pour Man’s Coffee, Jaju Pierogi, and Lady Ghada, along with many other surprises and additions throughout the season.
As in previous years, the farmers’ market will continue to take EBT through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
