Updates on Flooding Issues in Salem

Weather Update

The city of Salem’s Public Works and Fire Departments will be in neighborhoods affected by today’s flooding beginning tomorrow, January 14th at 8 am.  As equipment allows, the Fire Department will assist homeowners with basement pump-outs if more than six inches of water is present and the basements can be entered safely.  To request a pump-out, call the Fire Department at 978-744-1234.  Due to the high volume of calls for assistance, it may take time before assistance is available. Please be patient.

The entire Willows neighborhood is closed to all traffic; residents only are allowed to enter.  Please stay away from all areas that have been flooded and allow the crews to work on recovery efforts. Some roads throughout the city may remain closed due to flooding for some time; do NOT drive around a barricade if a road is closed.

Residents are also advised to use extreme caution when entering a flooded basement.  When the flooding has been mitigated, utilities must be checked by an electrician and a heating contractor to ensure safe operation.
