Fall Running Programs
Running Form and Gate Mechanics 101:
How to run more efficiently, prevent injury, and run faster with less effort. This running program will address proper running mechanics. Running with the correct form can help prevent injuries and can help athletes run more efficiently (that translates into running faster and longer). This session will be video taped for athletes who would like a more in depth analysis of form (athletes will need to schedule a separate session for individual review). This program will be run by Jen Toomey, currently training for the 2008 Olympics in track. Jen has spent several months working with trainers at the US Olympic Training Centers to learn about form and mechanics. Saturday 10/6, 1-3pm @ the Salem Common. 6 Week Fall Running Program
“Wild Turkey Race Tune Up” 10/17 -11/21
This 6 week program will guide you through your training for the big race on Thanksgiving! The program is open to runners / walkers of all levels. Athletes meet one day a week for organized workouts. Athletes are placed in groups according to level. Those not participating in a race on Thanksgiving are still encouraged to attend, as this can establish a great base or a great start to training. This is a fun way to get in shape. Individualized training/private coaching for events up to the marathon are available. Wednesdays 10/17-11/21, at 6:30pm @ the Salem Common. Instructors are Mike and Jen Toomey, Cost: $60 with advanced sign up, $50 for Current running club, triathlon club members. Ages 13+. Contact Doug Bollen at dbollen@salem.com to register.
Salem Wild Turkey Road Race
These programs are brought to you by Doug Bollen of the Salem Park, Recreation & Community Services Department. Doug has been running and directing races for over 20 years and has been an integral part of the running community.
About the coaches: Mike Toomey and Jennifer Toomey. Mike Toomey owns his own sports massage and sports therapy business. He specializes in Active Release Technique(R), deep tissue and sports massage. Mike is a USATF Certified Coach. He has been the featured speaker on middle distance running for many high school coaching clinics and has coached runners for the past 15 years. He is currently the head coach in XC and Track & Field at Lynn English High School. Jennifer Toomey is a Nike sponsored athlete. She has won 3 national championship titles, qualified for 5 World championship teams, is the American Record holder for 1000m and was the runner up for 1500m at the 2004 Olympic Trials. She is currently training to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games.
