This year, the stalls are being operated by the following:
Experimental Art Gallery and Studio is not only a gallery but a working artist space operated by local artists Sara Ashodian and Elise Mankes. Working in various media, Sara and Elise along with invited artists, will offer visitors not only a glimpse at the final product, but at the process and forethought that goes into creating a work of art.
Mamadou returns for his fourth season on Artists Row with his shop, Baobab. Mamadou is a well known ethnomusicologist whose band tours extensively throughout New England. His wife, Susan Dodge, is an artist whose work can be found in the stall. Debra Crosby’s A Quest Actor’s Studio will also be part of his stall offering classes and performances throughout the season.
The Salem Arts Association is the premier membership organization for artists and art-lovers living and working in the Salem area. Led by Gary LaParl, the mission of this artist-led organization is to bring art, in all its forms, to the community and bring the community, in all its diversity, to the arts in Salem. We do this by producing exhibits, readings, performances and special events, by operating a retail gallery, exhibition and performance space in Artist Row and by forging important community partnerships. The Salem Arts Association was nominated for the Salem Chamber of Commerce 2007 Community Service Award.
Theory Art Space is run by Craig Nelson and Ashley Russell. Russell has a line of handbags and messenger bags made from upholstery and draping fabric. Nelson is a self-taught artist who works in ink, watercolor and pencil to create fantastical sketches and paintings based on realism.
Artist stalls are open Thursdays through Saturdays 10AM to 6PM and Sundays 12-6PM. Some stalls may have additional days and hours.
Also part of Artist Row is The Lobster Shanty, a seasonal restaurant offering authentic New England seafood. The Lobster Shanty is open daily 12PM to 1AM with the kitchen open until 10PM.
