Transfer Station - Yard Waste and Cardboard Recycling ONLY

The Transfer Station for yard waste is closed for the season and will reopen April 13th, 2024.

Cardboard Drop off is available during the off-season every other Thursday from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm on the following dates: January 4th & 18th. February 1st, 15th, & 29th. March 14th & 28th and April 11th.

During the open season (April-December), Salem residents with proof of ID may drop off their yard waste and cardboard recycling at the Salem Transfer Station on 12 Swampscott Road on Saturdays 7:00a.m. to 3:00p.m and Sundays 9:00a.m. to  5:00p.m.

Yard waste should be dropped off in a paper yard waste bag or dumped loose at the designated area on the site. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted and stumps and branches greater than 2” in diameter will also not be accepted.

Excess cardboard recycling at the transfer station: To ensure that this program is successful, it is imperative that only clean, dry cardboard is brought to this location. Cardboard must also be flattened. If the cardboard boxes can be reused, please bring them to U-Haul Moving & Storage at 43 Jefferson Ave as they offer a “take a box, leave a box” reuse program.

  5. Place yard waste separately from trash.
