Ansaloni Square

Private First Class Vincent L. Ansaloni, a native of 37 Broad Street, served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He was born on April 6th, 1918. Private First Class Ansaloni initially entered the service in Boston. He participated in actions against the enemy during the Marshall Islands Operation from January 25th, 1944 to March 2nd, 1944. He also honorably served in the Asiatic-Pacific Area from July 19th, 1942 until he was tragically killed in action on July 25th, 1945 in Guam. His awards include the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.

His remains are buried in Long Island National Cemetery. His parents were Eugene and Ernesta Ansaloni and his surviving sister lives in Salem and is married to Ernest Daly, also a WWII veteran.

His square was approved by the City Council in his honor on May 9th, 2013 and is located at the corner of Norman and Crombie Streets.
