AyubeSergeant James A. Ayube II, a native of Bridge Street, served as a medic in the US Army during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was born on April 29th, 1985 and graduated from Salem High School in 2003. He also earned an associate degree from Bunker Hill Community College in 2007. Sergeant Ayube enlisted that same year.

Tragically, he was killed in action by a suicide bomber in Chehel Gazi, Afghanistan on December 8th, 2010. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His other awards include the Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal, and Combat Medical Badge. At the time, Sergeant Ayube served with Company H, 2nd Stryker, Cavalry Regiment of Vilseck, Germany. He was the son of James Sr. and Christina, brother to Alex and Ashleigh, and husband to Lauren Ayube. The drive is dedicated in his honor.
