Corporal Oscar A. Hix served in the US Army during World War I. He was born on September 6th, 1892 in St. George, Maine, yet resided in Massachusetts for two years prior to his military service. He also worked as a motorman for Bay State Rail Company. Corporal Hix initially enlisted on November 16th, 1917 to the 2nd Recruit Company, General Service Infantry of Fort Slocum, New York. He was later transferred on December 6th, 1917 to Company L, 30th Infantry, 3rd Division and promoted to Corporal on May 12th, 1918. He arrived overseas on April 2nd, 1918.

Tragically, he was killed in action on July 15th, 1918 near Mezy-Sur-Seine, France. His remains are buried in Rockland, Maine. He was the son of Alvah and Hattie Hix.

His square is located at the corner of Cross and Saunders Streets, dedicated in his honor.
