McSwigginFireman (E-3) Raymond V. McSwiggin, a native of Woodside Street, served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was born on February 11th, 1922. His first enlistment in the military was from August 18th, 1942 to January 23rd, 1946. Fireman McSwiggin also had a second enlistment from March 23rd, 1951 to March 16th, 1955. He was appointed a permeant firefighter on December 1st, 1957 to Ladder One in Salem and later transferred to Engine 6, Group 5 on February 15th, 1966.

Tragically, he was killed in the line of duty on February 20th, 1982. He was the son of Francis and Blanche (Messervy) McSwiggin, brother to Francis, Robert, Ralph, Francis L., and Richard Francis, and husband to Ruth M. McSwiggin.

His square is located at the corner of North Street and Liberty Hill Avenue, dedicated in his honor.
