      Omer Morency    

MorencyFireman First Class Omer Morency served in the US Navy during World War I. He was born on November 11th, 1897 in Salem. Prior to his service, he worked as a laborer. Fireman First Class Morency initially enlisted on May 23rd, 1917 and assigned to the USS Aztec in Boston.

Tragically, he died of influenza at the naval hospital in Chelsea, Massachusetts on September 18th, 1918. He was the son of Ferdinand and Augustine (Provost) Morency of Salem and brother to Anteme of St. Paschal, Quebec.

His square is located at the corner of Salem and Dow Streets, dedicated in his honor.
