Seaman Frist Class John Polemenako, a native of 48R Butler Street, served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He was born on December 3rd, 1920. Seaman First Class Polemenako entered the service on October 17th, 1942. He served on the USCGC Spencer which arrived in Shanghai, China on October 12th, 1945.

Tragically, he died 8 days later on October 20th, 1945. Unfortunately, the circumstances of his death are unknown. He was the son of John and Mary (Panagakos) and brother to Frances and Evelyn.

His square is located at the corner of Butler and Rawlins Streets, dedicated in his honor.
