Private Francis H. Ruxton served in the US Army during World War I. Born on March 18th, 1896 in Gloucester, he worked as a grocery clerk and lived on 130 ½ North Street prior to serving. Private Ruxton initially enlisted on May 1st, 1918 to SATC, Wentworth Institute, Boston, Massachusetts. He later transferred on June 30th, 1918 to Company M, 3rd Battalion, Chemical Warfare Service of Edgewood Plant, Maryland.

Tragically, he died of disease in Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland on October 6th, 1918. He was the son of James and Jennie (Amero) Ruxton, brother to Otis, Oscar, Arthur Mary, and Alice, and husband to Anna K. Durgin.

His square is located at the corner of Buffum and Mason Streets, dedicated in his honor.
