SandsPrivate Maurice C. Sands served in the US Army during World War I. He was born on January 3rd, 1887 in Fryeburg, Maine. Prior to serving, he lived at 200 Highland Avenue and was a Massachusetts resident for 14 years. Private Sands initially enlisted on October 4th, 1917 to the 151st Depot Brigade. He was later transferred on November 11th, 1917 to Company K, 325th Infantry, 82nd Division and on July 7th, 1918 to Company B, 328th Infantry, 82nd Division. He arrived overseas on May 1st, 1918. 
 
Tragically, he died of shrapnel wounds received in action on Hill 223 near Chatel-Chehery, France on October 31, 1918. His remains are buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in Romagne, France. He was the son of Amaziah Sands.
