Mission Statement

The Mission of Salem Electrical Department, is the management, maintenance, repair, and  security of the City's Street lights, decorative lights, park and public building lights. The aluminum cobra head pole & lights are maintained by National Grid. The traffic signals and controllers, fire alarm street boxes and cables, are also the responsibility of the departments signal maintainers.

The Department receives and grants electrical permits, and schedules inspections for commercial, industrial and residential work. All electrical work performed in the City is controlled through the enforcement of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Electrical Codes.
