Canal St. Roadway Improvement Project

Canal Street Existing Conditions:

  • This 1.25 mile long urban arterial is one of the major gateway routes in and out of the City.

  • The roadway is urban with sections of commercial, industrial and residential neighborhoods.

  • Many of the businesses have wide and poorly defined curb cuts.

  • The road pavement is in poor condition with areas of severe cracking and settlement.

  • Drainage issues are present in several locations. Pedestrian activity along the corridor is heavy and adequate pedestrian ramps and access for disabled people are not really available in many locations.
