Canal Street Improvements & Flood Mitigation Projects

The area between St Paul Street and Forest Avenue is susceptible to flooding with over 30-acres of area and 50 buildings impacted by 100-year storm events. The City is currently undertaking a number of utility improvements as part of the Phase I of the overall drainage improvement. Following the Phase I utility improvements, the city will reconstruct the Canal Street roadway, from Mill Street to Jefferson Ave. The second phase of drainage improvements will be completed when the Canal Street roadway project is complete and will provide the area with 100-year storm flood protection.
