Flood Mitigation and Utility Improvement Project - Phase I (Canal Street)

Phase 1 – Proposed Canal Street Utility Infrastructure Improvements

ObjectiveDesign, bid, and construct storm drain, wastewater and water utility infrastructure improvements in Canal Street by December 28, 2013.
PurposeComplete all subsurface utility work in Canal Street prior to commencement of the Canal Street Roadway Improvement Project (being funded by Transportation Improvement Program Construction Funding (TIP) in FY 2014) to avoid/minimize excavation in Canal Street after resurfacing has been completed.
Limit of WorkCanal Street – From Jefferson Avenue to Mill Street (approximately 6,800 feet)
Description of Work

Repair and rehabilitation of the following existing utilities:

  • Sewer: The scope will be developed based on a TV inspection of the existing sewer pipelines and manholes (being conducted by the City) and assessment of the inspections by W&C. No capacity increases are anticipated at this time.
  • Water: The scope will be developed based on coordination meetings between City and W&C. It is anticipated the work will be limited to valve installations and/or replacements. No pipe replacement or capacity increases are anticipated at this time.
  • Storm Drain: The scope of the physical repairs to the South River Conduit located under Canal Street are as outlined in Woodard & Currans’s Phase II Report for the South River Drainage Improvement Project, dated April 2011.

Construct a portion of the Canal Street Flood Mitigation proposed storm drain system within the limits of work (approximately 2,100 feet).
