Passport Parking App Updates

Parking Space Turn-Over Times

Please note, the Passport App will no longer allow parkers to remain in a parking space for longer than the time allowed by City Ordinance. This time limit in certain spaces is intended to encourage spaces turn over and are more often available for other parking vehicles.

What does this mean for users?

If you park your vehicle in a time restricted space (e.g. 4 hour maximum) you will only be able to purchase the maximum amount of time permitted per the City’s Ordinances. Once your parking session has ended, you will not be able to add more time to park in the same space and zone for 30 minutes.

What if I initially purchase less time than what is permitted?

If you purchase less time than what is permitted and would like to extend your time you must do so before your session ends.  If you do not extend your time before the session ends you will not be able to park in the same space and zone for 30 minutes. Passport recommends that you update your application settings to receive notifications about the expiration of your parking session.

Passport Parking Upgrade

Passport recently completed upgrades to their application intended to improve the technology and user support. The upgrade has currently been released to all Android users and will be released to iPhone users in the next few weeks.

  • Improved technology: updates to the backend architecture makes the application more flexible, so Passport has more capability to update the program, add new features, and respond quickly to bugs and technical issues.
  • Improved user support: The “Send Bug Report” feature was not an effective way for the user support team to connect with parkers who were experiencing issues – a new FAQ section and chat function will ensure better troubleshooting help from the Passport team.

What’s different in the Passport Parking upgrade?

  • Login:
    • A user’s phone number is positioned front and center as the login method. Email is still available, but not the primary option. Facebook login is no longer available.
      • Note - A new account is created when users who initially signed up with a phone number mistakenly sign in with an email.  If this occurs, users should delete and then reload the app to their phone.  Users may then log in with their phone number so that they can access their account information.
    • Two-Factor verification is still a part of the login flow, but it has been upgraded to a 6-digit code to follow industry security and verification best practices.
  • Permissions:
    • Passport Parking requires fewer permissions, which is intended to make parkers feel more secure when setting up an account in the app
  • User Flow:
    • Users will be able to view their most recently used zones suggested as an option and will also see recommendations for zones that are nearby.
      • Note - “Recent Zones” or payment methods may not have been transferred over when logging in to the updated version of the app.  Users may have to re-add payment method and preferred parking zones, these will be saved going forward.
  • Passport Parking will highlight the end-time of a parking session vs. the countdown timer. The countdown timer will still be available, but will not be front and center.
  • Users will still be notified 10 minutes before a session is nearing expiration, as well as when a session has expired. Users will need to enable notifications from the Passport app in settings in order to be notified. In cases where you would like to extend your stay and have not yet parked for the maximum time permitted for that space (e.g. you only paid for two hours in a 4-hour zone), if you do not extend your time before your session ends you will be prohibited from adding time in that zone for the next 30 minutes. All such time restrictions are pursuant to the City’s Ordinances.
  • Help:
    • “Send Bug Reports” is being replaced with FAQs and an in-app chat feature. 70% of technology users prefer to use self-help options than to directly contact support, this change is intended to improve parker satisfaction.
