Public Health Advisory

Ensuring a safe and healthy holiday season
covid update

The Salem Board of Health is issuing this advisory to inform the residents of Salem that COVID-19 cases are again on the rise. As we head into the winter months, in particular the upcoming holiday season, the Board of Health wants to remind residents to continue to be vigilant against this virus.

The Board strongly advises that residents take the following steps to protect themselves from COVID-19:

  • For those unvaccinated, we strongly recommend you get vaccinated.
  • All adults who are eligible, receive a COVID-19 a booster shot as soon as possible. You are eligible for a booster if you are at least 6 months out from receiving a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or at least 2 months out form receiving a J&J vaccine.
  • In anticipation of indoor holiday gatherings and/or travel residents are encouraged to utilize the many testing options in the city. A complete list of testing options can be found at www.salem.com/testing. Additionally, many pharmacies sell the rapid at home COVID-19 tests that can be used as an alternative should the city/state testing sites not be available.
  • We also strongly encourage indoor masking in public places and large indoor private gatherings, even for those who are vaccinated.

By taking these commonsense precautions we hope to slow the spread of the virus in the community so that all residents can enjoy a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.
