Reminder and Request from the Salem Council on Aging

The Salem Council on Aging staff are working to identify and support older adults in Salem who may be in need during this difficult time. Read more below about services that may be of particular benefit to older residents, as well as an opportunity for community volunteers to assist.

Social Services Available

Older residents who may be more at risk, have compromised health issues, or do not have family support available should call the Social Services Department at 978-744-0924.

"Are You OK" Well-Being Check-In

The "Are You OK" program is a free program offered to Salem seniors (age 60 or over) or those residents living with a disability. Registered participants will receive a daily automated phone call to check on their well-being. If you would like to opt into this service or to enroll an older parent or family member, please call the Social Services Department at 978-744-0924.

Call for Volunteers

To minimize older adults' exposure to the coronavirus, the Council on Aging is developing a volunteer list to assist seniors in need through a new pick-up/delivery service for groceries and other needed items. Community members who are interested in helping should call 978-744-0924 or email Teresa Arnold, COA Director, at tarnold@salem.com. A CORI check is required of all volunteers. Visit https://www.salem.com/sites/g/files/vyhlif12836/f/pages/cori_form.pdf for the CORI form, complete the form, and scan it along with a copy of your license or ID to kmccarthy@salem.com. Volunteers will be contacted as needed by COA staff.
