Salem providing temporary expansion of certain sidewalks

Starting week of May 18th in select locations
sidewalks

Since many of the City's most popular walking areas have sidewalks that are too narrow to maintain safe physical distances between individuals during the current pandemic, starting the week of May 18th the City will temporarily delineate space along certain streets to expand the sidewalk space. In some cases this will involve restricting parking. One of the safest way to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 is to stay home, but we know Salem residents still need to get out of their homes, whether because they are essential workers, need to go to the pharmacy or grocery store, or for safe recreation. These changes will help allow for safe distances to be maintained during these activities in some of the City's most popular pedestrian areas.
