MBTA

The City of Salem is served by the MBTA via the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail line, as well as the 435, 450, 451, 455, and 456 bus lines. Salem Station is located at the northern end of Washington Street for easy access to downtown and North Salem. Residents and visitors traveling to the station via car can park at either the City-owned Crescent Lot immediately adjacent to the station or the MBTA parking garage.

The City of Salem works closely with our partners at the MBTA to discuss service changes and impacts to residents and visitors taking the T. This includes providing input on projects and programs such as the Better Bus Project, Forging Ahead, and others. Currently, the City of Salem is working with the MBTA on the Plan for Accessible Infrastructure (PATI), which aims to provide better accessibility to riders at stops, as well as on the MBTA Fare Transformation project, helping to find the right locations for future fare vending machines and retailers throughout the transit network in Salem.
