Grindal Square

Yeoman Leroy H. Grindal served in the US Navy during World War I. He was born on July 27th, 1887 in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to serving, he lived on 5 Winter Street and worked as a bookkeeper and manager. Yeoman Grindal initially enlisted on March 14th, 1918 and stationed from March 15th, 1918 to November 11th, 1918 at First Naval District Headquarters.

He tragically died of disease in Salem on December 18th, 1918. He was the son of Herbert and Magdalina (Tembroke) Grindal and brother to Herbert of Boston.

His square is located at the corner of Pickman and Pleasant Streets, dedicated in his honor.
