LemireTechnician 5th Grade George E. Lemire, a native of 45 Broad Street, served in the US Army as a Medic during World War II. He was born on December 14th, 1922 and worked as a logger prior to serving.

Tragically, he was killed in action July 17th, 1944 in France. His remains are buried at the Long Island Military Cemetery. He was the son of Grace Lemire and brother to Donald of Salem, who served in the Navy during World War II.

His square was approved by the City Council in his honor on April 14th, 2016 and is located at the corner of Broad and Hathorne Streets.
