Miaskiewicz Square

Staff Sergeant Mieczyslaus “Mashie” T. Miaskiewicz served in the US Army Air Corps as a B-17 Flight Engineer during World War II. He was born in 1916. Prior to serving, he worked as a leather worker and lived on 18 Arbella Street. Staff Sergeant Miaskiewicz initially enlisted on July 23rd, 1942 in Fort Devens, Massachusetts.

Tragically, he was killed in action when his plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire over Yugoslavia on May 18th, 1944. He was the brother of Christine and Theresa Miaskiewicz.

His square was approved in his honor by the City Council on January 10th, 2013, and is located at the corner of Bridge and Arbella Streets.
