Private First Class Edward O’Donnell served in the US Army during World War II. He was born in County Donegal, Ireland on July 25th, 1906. Prior to serving, he worked at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody and lived at 92 Boston Street. Private First Class O’Donnell initially enlisted on August 21st, 1942. He served in the Aleutian (Battle of Attu) and Marianas campaigns in the Pacific Theatre.

Tragically, he was killed in action in Hollandia, New Guinea on November 6th, 1944. He was the son of James and Ellen (McLaughlin) O’Donnell and brother to Michael, who was wounded in the Anglo beachhead campaign in Italy during WWII.

His square was dedicated in his honor on July 14th, 1946 and is located at the corner of Boston and Grove Streets.
