Private George E. O’Neill served in the US Army during World War I. He was born on February 25th, 1893 in New Brunswick. Private O’Neill initially enlisted on May 31st, 1918 to 4th Recruit Company, General Service Infantry of Fort Slocum, New York. He later transferred on June 4th, 1918 to Battery B, 11th Battalion, Field Artillery Replacement Draft and again on June 24th, 1918 to School Detachment, Field Artillery Brigade, Firing Center at Camp Knox, Kentucky.

Tragically, he died of disease in Camp Taylor, Kentucky on October 17th, 1918.

His square located at the corner of Liberty Hill Avenue and Appleton Street, dedicated in his honor.
