Orne Square

The square is named in honor of Mrs. Joseph Orne, the aunt of Nathaniel Ropes who is credited with building Orne Square as a residental area. Nathaniel was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Janurary 7th, 1833 and graduated from Harvard College in 1858. In 1866, he moved to his ancestral home of Salem. Nathaniel passed from an unknown illness on February 6th, 1893.
The square is located from 21 ½ Broad to opposite 24 Hathorne Street.
