SheridanSecond Lieutenant Philip B. Sheridan, a native of 6 Wisteria Street, served in the US Army during World War I. He was born on December 19th, 1891 in Salem. Prior to serving, he attended the University of Maine and worked as a shipping clerk for General Electric in Lynn. Second Lieutenant Sheridan was called to service on August 15th, 1917 from Plattsburg Training Camp and assigned to the 301st Machine Gun Battalion, 75th Division. He was later transferred to Company L, 26th Infantry, 1st Division, however the date is unknown. He arrived overseas on July 8th, 1918.

Tragically, he was killed in action near Exermont, France on October 9th, 1918. He was the son of Philip and Mary Josephine (Grady) Sheridan and brother to Mary of Salem, and Ann Elizabeth of Los Angeles, California.

His square is located at the intersection of Grove, School and Tremont Streets, dedicated in his honor.
