  • Discussion of  intersection of Canal/Loring/Jefferson and intersection of Raymond/Loring at bike path crossing – City Councilor Stephen Dibble, Ward 7 Councilor, will be in attendance to discuss these areas of Ward 7 to share redesign ideas and get recommendations from the Committee on the best way to improve this intersection. The City will share all available technical engineering documentation to show future plans. Safety improvements and access will be discussed.

  • Lafayette St. Pilot Protected Lane - City Council has approved a Capital Improvement Project funding request of $40,000 to go to a Lafayette St protected bike lane pilot project. The newly configured street will use paint and temporary planters or plastic bollards to put a protected bicycle lane between the curb and parking on Lafayette St going South towards SSU. This project will be implemented in late spring or summer 2016. The City Engineering and Planning Dept. will be coordinating with MassInMotion and MAPC to fully execute project including public outreach, meetings, and project implementation. UPDATE: David Knowlton, City Engineer, held a public neighborhood meeting and the details of the meeting outcome will be shared with the Committee.

  • Map Update Discussion – John Pelletier has shared the map update with the Committee and discussion of how to improve incorporate the map into bike planning and outreach. This map could serve as a replacement for existing bike and safety brochures created by the Committee.

  • Salem Spins Discussion – The program is run by the City Planning Department, specifically the City Energy and Sustainability Manager. The expansion of the program to multiple downtown locations and the Blaney Street Ferry has created maintenance and distribution issues. The City is looking to implement a more streamlined and automated approach that better serves riders.
