Bluebikes Program Expands in Salem

New Stations Deployed in Vinnin Square, Bridge Street Neck, and Derby Street

Mayor Dominick Pangallo today announced that the City of Salem has expanded the capacity and reach of the City’s Bluebikes bikeshare program with three new stations and 18 additional bikes. With support from a Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization Community Connections grant, new stations were deployed in June in Vinnin Square, Bridge Street Neck, and on Derby Street.

Mayor Pangallo stated: “This bikeshare expansion builds upon the work over several years to become a ‘car choice’ community with several good transportation options that make driving an option and not a necessity. The bikeshare program is a healthy and convenient way for residents, workers, students, and visitors to get around Salem. It is a zero-emissions mode of travel that supports our climate goals. And the program bolsters the local economy by providing a way for customers to reach local shops and restaurants regardless of traffic congestion and limited car parking.”

Salem’s Bluebikes system has logged over 17,000 rides since its launch in June 2021. A single Bluebikes membership provides access to bikes across the system, in Salem, Boston, and all other Metro Boston communities where Bluebikes operates. Bluebikes offers a variety of membership options, including discounts for income-eligible riders. See the system map and membership options at Bluebikes.com.

Salem’s Bluebikes program is funded through the support of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Salem State University, Salem Hospital, and the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization. If you find a stray Bluebike, please return it to the nearest station or report it to Bluebikes customer service at bluebikes.com/contact or 1-855-948-2929.
