Should scooters be driven on the road or on the sidewalk?
Scooters should not be driven on the sidewalk, and should only be driven on the road or in bike lanes wherever available, and always in the same direction as traffic. Fines for riding a scooter on a sidewalk start at $30 per violation and increase for subsequent violations. All riders must adhere to the traffic regulations, signals and signs as would a bicyclist or motorist.
¿Dónde se debe manejar el motor electrónico en la acera o en la calle?
Los motores no se deben de manejar en las aceras y solamente se deben manejar en la calle o en las áreas asignadas para uso de bicicletas donde estén disponibles y siempre manejándolas en la misma dirección que el tráfico. Multas por manejar los motores en la acera es $30 por violación y se aumenta con cada multa que sigue. Todos los motociclistas deben de seguir las reglas del tráfico, señales y letreros cual les aplican.

Yes, you need to be 18 years old to rent a scooter and scan your license when you sign up with the Spin app. You are NOT allowed to rent more than one scooter at a time via the app. You are NOT allowed to rent a scooter for someone else. You are NOT allowed to ride on a scooter with another person. Riders agree to these rules when they sign up and check out a scooter; violating them may result in revocation of the rider’s Spin account.

How long will scooters be in Salem?
This is a trial, so if the City observes serious safety issues and rider behavior is not what it should be, the trial can end at any time at the discretion of the Chief of Police. If there are not any major safety issues and if riders generally follow the rules, the scooters will stay until the pilot ends in May 2020, with a hiatus during the winter months.
