Engineman Second Class Frank T. Smith

Engineman Second Class Frank T. Smith, a native of 16 Horn Street, served in the US Navy during World War I. He was born on February 12th, 1898 in Salem. Engineman Second Class Smith initially enlisted on January 24th, 1917 and assigned to the USS Virginia. He was later transferred to the USS Chester on April 11th, 1917 and to the USS Salem on March 19th, 1918. Tragically, he died from disease on July 20th, 1920 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was the son of John and Bridget Smith.
