The Salem Scholarship and Education Committee has awarded five scholarships of $500 each from the Salem Scholarship Fund to graduating Salem seniors heading to college in the fall.

  • Teebh Al-Freihy is a graduate of Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical High School and will be attending Endicott College.
  • Sarah Curley is a graduate of Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical High School and will be attending the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
  • Damian Flynn is a graduate of St. Mary’s and will be attending the University of New Hampshire-Durham.
  • Jillian Flynn is a graduate of Salem High School and will be attending Suffolk University.
  • Aiyana Lilly is a graduate of Salem Academy Charter School and will be attending Emmanuel College.

“I would like to congratulate the 2020 scholarship recipients and thank all of the students who applied for consideration,” said Committee Chair Tyler Carlton. “The pool of applicants this year was very competitive and speaks highly of the quality, potential, and accomplishments of Salem’s youth. These scholarships will help these five Salem residents as they continue on to higher education. The Scholarship and Education Committee is grateful to the many Salem residents who have donated to the fund, making these scholarships possible. I would like to encourage all of our community’s residents and businesses to consider a small donation to the Scholarship Fund or the Education Fund, so the Committee can continue to support these important efforts. You can donate online at www.salem.com/scholarship and clicking on the blue Donate button.”

The Scholarship and Education Funds were established in 1987 and are largely funded through small donations by Salem taxpayers on their tax bills. Donations to both Funds are entirely tax-deductible and 100% of all donations go directly to scholarship and grant recipients. Funding support also comes from grants and gifts from businesses, foundations, and others in the community. The Scholarship Fund provides educational financial aid to Salem students going on to higher education and the Education Fund provides supplemental educational funding for local educational needs. Scholarships are awarded annually and Education Fund grants on a rolling basis through the year.
